The
seat of an ancient civilization and forbidden to travellers
for centuries, Tibet's flourishing culture was shrouded in
mystery amid the high plateaus. Now you can fly straight into
Lhasa taking a dramatic flight across the Himalayas. Lhasa,
the capital lies in the highest plateau in the world, with the
Potala towering above it. The Potala Palace is the ancient
seat of the Dalai Lama - spiritual leader of Tibetan
Buddhists. Hear
monks chanting prayers in ancient monasteries and the faithful
circumambulating the jokhang temple prostrating on their
bellies. Visit the Barkhor, an open market and wonderful place
to mix with the Tibetans along white-washed stone houses.
Tibet is an unforgettable destination for the Himalayan
traveller. Namgyal
